Today we’d like to introduce you to Sianni Cabello.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
After seeing the need for barriers to be broken in the lives of so many youth, I set out to understand how I could impact and positively change how the inequalities of the United States educational system were set up. I then grew to have an invested interest in education policy and devoted myself to working with politicians on Capitol Hill and others in state and local government. Since then I launched SocialSocietyU, Inc. where I work with high school students preparing them for their next steps through college prep symposiums (#SSUTheGathering) and by interviewing esteemed guests to capture their success stories. Since then our events have been featured across New York City and has gathered support from the NBA, America’s Next Top Model & more. I have also been blessed to reach over 2000+ youth across the world including individuals in Australia, Spain, Italy, France, and the US. To help me better grasp the significance of grassroots work I decided to attend Columbia University for my masters degree to learn more about nonprofit management and the marketing that goes on behind the scenes. With Galatians 6:9 as my guiding light I am actively learning how to enhance my initiatives and develop myself to be an impactful educational leader.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
I have always had to overcome the challenge of fear of the unknown. Especially with events and things out of our power as an organization. I am learning though, how to take each hour at a time, each day at a time. That has helped me significantly.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
Our college prep program is unorthodox in many ways. For one, we want to ensure no child is left out, we want to ensure that all students have equal educational opportunities, and that they always have a memorable experience during our college prep symposiums. We do this by providing multiple pathways to success whether a student wants to go straight into school or explore their career first- we aim to set them up for the best outcome possible. Again, leaving no one without a plan. We also aim to meet them where they are by providing practical methods to overcome everyday situations with biblical and positive life lessons fighting youth incarceration with education. On any given event day you would most likely find an up and coming college DJ, celebrity panelist (NFL, Radio, Influencers, Actresses, etc), current college mentors, snacks galore, and a plethora of nervous yet excited high school students.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
The best piece of advice I would provide my readers would be to invest in areas of your business where you cannot teach yourself how to do it and use your time in areas that you’re good with or in areas you can teach yourself. Always check your resources and ensure you’re getting a good price for your investment.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Success to me as a nonprofit owner is meeting my mission. I feel so much heartwarming joy when a student tells me that our programming really impacted their next steps when their high school career concludes. It’s our number one ambition to level the opportunities and college/career resources for all students inside and outside of the community. With each event we are fighting youth incarceration with education, making sure that all of our pupils are poured into and set on the motion for success.
What’s next for you?
We hosted events in New York, Atlanta, Virginia, Australia, now we really want to take on the east coast and host events in DC, North Carolina, Detroit, and more. We’re also looking to build out our Hampton University chapter of scholars. Our students there mainly handle our community approached initiatives and work directly with the Greer Dawson Wilson Student Leadership Training Program. They also have the opportunity to intern with our partnering companies, and participate in our yearly events across the nation. We believe that the work doesn’t stop once the students are in college, but know that they too can now give wisdom and a helping hand to those who are coming next.
